چکیده

We classify all pairs (G, V ) with G a closed subgroup in a classical group G with natural module V over C, such that G and G have the same composition factors on V ⊗k for a fixed k ∈ {2, 3, 4}. In particular, we prove Larsen’s conjecture stating that for dim(V ) > 6 and k = 4 there are no such G aside from those containing the derived subgroup of G. We also find all the examples where this fails for dim(V ) ≤ 6. As a consequence of our results, we obtain a short proof of a related conjecture of Katz. These conjectures are used in Katz’s recent works on monodromy groups attached to Lefschetz pencils and to character sums over finite fields. Modular versions of these conjectures are also studied, with a particular application to random generation in finite

From Exceptional Collections to Motivic Decompositions via Noncommutative Motives

Making use of noncommutative motives we relate exceptional collections (and more generally semi-orthogonal decompositions) to motivic decompositions. On one hand we prove that the Chow motive M(X )Q of every smooth and proper Deligne-Mumford stack X , whose bounded derived category D(X ) of coherent schemes admits a full exceptional collection, decomposes into a direct sum of tensor powers of t...

Module Structure on Lie Powers and Natural Coalgebra-split Sub Hopf Algebras of Tensor Algebras

In this article, we investigate the functors from modules to modules that occur as the summands of tensor powers and the functors from modules to Hopf algebras that occur as natural coalgebra summands of tensor algebras. The main results provide some explicit natural coalgebra summands of tensor algebras. As a consequence, we obtain some decompositions of Lie powers over the general linear groups.

A remark on asymptotic enumeration of highest weights in tensor powers of a representation

We consider the semigroup $S$ of highest weights appearing in tensor powers $V^{otimes k}$ of a finite dimensional representation $V$ of a connected reductive group. We describe the cone generated by $S$ as the cone over the weight polytope of $V$ intersected with the positive Weyl chamber. From this we get a description for the asymptotic of the number of highest weights appearing in $V^{otime...

Orthogonal Rank Decompositions for Tensors

The theory of orthogonal rank decompositions for matrices is well understood, but the same is not true for tensors. For tensors, even the notions of orthogonality and rank can be interpreted several diierent ways. Tensor decompositions are useful in applications such as principal component analysis for multiway data. We present two types of orthogonal rank decompositions and describe methods to...

4 X = M for Symmetric Powers

The X = M conjecture of Hatayama et al. asserts the equality between the one-dimensional configuration sum X expressed as the generating function of crystal paths with energy statistics and the fermionic formula M for all affine Kac–Moody algebra. In this paper we prove the X = M conjecture for tensor products of Kirillov–Reshetikhin crystals B1,s associated to symmetric powers for all nonexcep...
